U.S. Security Care Named Official School Police Provider By Pennsylvania Office for Safe Schools

Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, February 16, 2015 – U.S. Security Care has been approved as a provider of school police by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office for Safe Schools. As a result, U.S. Security Care is authorized to provide officers for schools and school districts participating in the department’s Targeted Grants for School Police Officer program.

The Targeted Grants Program provides $2.6 million in funding to assist schools in establishing or enhancing security. This includes the costs associated with training and compensating school police officers, who are authorized by the court to exercise the same powers as police of a municipality on school property. This includes the authority to issue summary citations or detain individuals until municipal police arrive on a scene.

“We are very pleased by to have been approved for this program,” said Richard Wolfson, president of U.S. Security Care. “We look forward to working with schools to address their security and violence issues.”

School security continues to be a major concern in Pennsylvania. There were over 48,000 incidents involving law enforcement in Pennsylvania schools during the 2013-14 academic year. Nearly 2,600 of these involved an incident with a weapon and there were 6,787 incidents of fighting that involved an assault on a student, faculty or staff member.

Well publicized incidents like the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting have encouraged some districts to consider hiring armed security guards or school police.

“The school police program offers a safer and more comprehensive program for ensuring the security of staff, faculty and students,” Wolfson said.

U.S. Security Care’s staff consists of former law enforcement, military and security professionals. New employees are vetted through comprehensive checks of county and state criminal records, DMV records and national criminal search including sex offender registry and child abuse clearance search.

U.S. Security Care’s training includes conflict and confrontation management, situational use of force and comprehensive gun safety and marksmanship, provided by highly trained and qualified individuals.

“We go above and beyond state requirements to ensure the quality of our staff,” Wolfson said.
